The Brothers Hildebrandt are American twin brothers who collaboratively worked as fantasy and science fiction artists. They produced illustrations for comic books, movie posters, children's books, posters, novels, calendars, advertisements, and trading cards. Tim Hildebrandt died in June 2006, in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

Career

Born January 23, 1939, in Detroit, Michigan, Greg Hildebrandt and Tim Hildebrandt began professionally painting in 1959. They are best known for their popular The Lord of the Rings calendar illustrations,[1] painting the first bilingual Star Wars film poster,[2] illustrating comics for Marvel Comics and DC Comics, original oil paintings for a limited edition of Terry Brooks's The Sword of Shannara,[1] and their Magic: The Gathering and Harry Potter illustrations for Wizards of the Coast.

Greg Hildebrandt, Jr. also made major contributions to the production of a book entitled Greg & Tim Hildebrandt: The Tolkien Years,[3] which gave an overview of the Tolkien genre artworks produced by Greg and Tim in the 1970s.

Individually, Greg is also famous for his contributions to the art for the Trans-Siberian Orchestra's albums and concert merchandise. He also provided the cover art for Black Sabbath's Mob Rules album.[4] He started his American Beauties pinup art in 1999, which benefits the families of the fallen firefighters and EMS workers in New York, according to their official site.[5]

Tim Hildebrandt illustrated children's books, two Dungeons & Dragons calendars, and the poster for the film The Secret of NIMH; his art was also used in advertising by AT&T and Levi's.[6] Tim was also Associate Producer of the horror-themed science fiction film,The Deadly Spawn.[7] Tim Hildebrandt died on June 11, 2006 at the age of 67 due to complications of diabetes.[6]
